The BRS provides for easy reconciliation of departing passengers with departing baggage to guarantee that baggage start and finish their journey with the passenger. The application uses wireless barcode scanners allowing employees to pinpoint the exact location of any piece of luggage during loading and unloading. The intention is to reduce mishandled baggage by tracking each piece of baggage and maintaining records of the handling of each piece of baggage.

Each time a bag is scanned and successfully reconciled; the BRS will record that bag as loaded and will assign a unique sequence number that specifies the location within a ULD. This information is useful in passenger offloading too. The BRS will capture the passenger offload message issued from the DCS, and update its database. An alert is then sent to the Baggage Manager indicating which belongings of the passenger have to be offloaded.
